Understand the development trend of the graphite industry through the physical properties of graphite
First of all, what are the properties of graphite, as follows:
(1) High temperature resistance and thermal shock resistance
The melting point of graphite is as high as 3850 degrees, and the strength increases with the increase of temperature. Therefore, it is mainly used to make graphite crucibles in the metallurgical industry. In steel-making, graphite is often used as a protective agent for steel ingots and as a lining of metallurgical furnaces; In addition, due to its small coefficient of thermal expansion, graphite also has good thermal shock resistance, can withstand drastic changes in temperature without being damaged, and can be used as casting, foundry, die casting and high-temperature metallurgical materials.
(2) Conductivity
The conductivity of graphite is 100 times higher than that of ordinary non-metallic minerals, so it is used in the electrical industry as a positive electrode for manufacturing electrodes, brushes, carbon rods, carbon tubes, mercury flow regulators, graphite gaskets, telephone parts, and coatings for TV picture tubes.
(3) Lubricity
Graphite is often used as a lubricant in the machinery industry, and lubricating oil can not be used under high-speed, high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, while graphite wear-resistant materials can work without lubricating oil at a very high sliding speed at a temperature of 200 ~ 2000 ℃. Many equipment conveying corrosive media widely use graphite materials to make piston cups, sealing rings and bearings, which do not need to add lubricating oil during operation. Graphite emulsion is also a good lubricant for many metal processing (wire drawing and pipe drawing).
With the development of new energy vehicles, the demand for batteries will increase greatly, which will promote the development of graphite negative electrode materials for lithium batteries. The price of high-purity graphite tends to be stable, and the cost pressure of high-purity stone grinding processing industry is reduced.
In 2019, there will be integration in the graphite industry. Powerful large factories will acquire and merge small manufacturers, and the industry concentration will increase. This will also be conducive to the development of the industry. Large factories will have funds to invest in R & D to promote the development of scientific and technological innovation in the graphite industry.
Graphite is metamorphosed from carbonaceous materials of organic origin and is most commonly found in marble, schist or gneiss. Graphite can be formed in part of coal seams through thermal metamorphism, and a small amount of graphite is the primary mineral of igneous rocks.
Because of its special structure, graphite has many characteristics such as high temperature resistance, thermal shock resistance, conductivity, lubricity, chemical stability and plasticity. It has always been an indispensable strategic resource in the development of military industry, modern industry and high, new and advanced technology. Graphite has a wide range of applications. Some experts predicted that "the 20th century will be the century of silicon, and the 21st century will be the century of carbon".
